Upright and contemplative in appearance, he gazes forward. The hands are placed in the lap in the mudra (gesture) of meditation. Wearing the orange and red robes of a monk, the right arm remains bare and the legs are folded beneath a meditation cloak. Seated atop an ornate throne with a decorative backrest, the head is framed with a light green areola of light. In front, a small table supports a vase and branch of red coral, along with other objects. At the lower left a monk holds a vase upraised in the left hand.
Naza Dragpugpa Sonam Pal (na bza' brag phug pa bsod nams dpal, 1277-1350/1346 [P3092]) was a student of Zhangton Konchog Pal (zhang ston dkon mchog dpal, 1250-1317), from whom he received the Lamdre teachings. He passed the Lamdre lineage on to Lama Palden Tsultrim (bla ma dpal ldan tshul khrims, 1333-1399), a teacher of Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo (ngor chen kun dga' bzang po, 1382-1456).
Dragpugpa also studied with the Sakya lamas Zhang Gandenpa Kunga Sonam (zhang dga' ldan pa kun dga' bsod nams, d.u.) and Sempa Chenpo Zhonnu Grubpa (sems dpa' chen po gzhon nu grub pa, d.u.)
Among his disciples were prominent Sakya lamas such as Lama Dampa Sonam Gyaltsen (bla ma dam pa bsod nams rgyal mtshan, 1312-1375) and Sakya Dagchen Jamyang Donyo Gyaltsen (sa skya bdag chen 'jam dbyangs don yod rgyal mtshan, 1310-1344).
