Catalogue Note
This painting illustrates scenes from the significant chapters of the life of Tsongkhapa Lobzang Dragpa (1357-1419), Buddhist adept and founder of the Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Rich vibrant colors depict the master as a fully ordained monk, with his two principle disciples, also adorned in monastic robes and yellow hats, seated on either side. For a similar treatment of the composition and color palette, see Sotheby's New York, 19th March 2014, lot 79.
